Species description: Chinese elm are native to eastern Asia where they grow near Japanese maple and trident maple and are as renowned as those classic bonsai species. Chinese elm respond incredibly well to root and branch bonsai techniques. It is possible to grow an entire ramified branch on a Chinese elm in one season. This makes them very friendly for the beginner artist. This species has some of the smallest leaves of any classic bonsai tree. This particular variety, quickly grows a rugged bark on contrasting grays and browns.

Specimen description: This tree has radial roots, optimal branching placement, and has been wired to create trunk movement. This specimen also has escape branches and a leader branch for future tree growth

USDA zones: 5-9

Light requirements: Full sun, can tolerate some shade.

Watering requirements: Keep moist, do not allow to dry out.
