Species description: Quaking Aspen are the most widely distributed deciduous tree in North America, spanning from the mountains of Mexico to interior Canada. A smooth bark with graceful movement (even when aged), remains an elegant focal point. The small leaves lend well to bonsai aesthetics, with striking golden autumn color which is famous worldwide. Aspen are best suited for colder climates and will not perform well in hot environments.

Specimen description: This aspen has undergone initial bonsai training for several years. It was grown through a washer and while the resulting roots are not radial, it has created an interested buttress. It has many branching and trunk continuation options for the future artist to choose from.

USDA zones: 2-7

Light requirements: Full sun, Aspen are known to be the most light hungry broad leaf species

Watering requirements: Keep moist, do not let fully dry
